I always get asked by my couples for recommendations for locations for their engagement photos! There are so many locations to choose from and sometimes it can be overwhelming. If you have a location that has a special tie to you both as a couple, that can be a great location but if you have no idea, then I have some recommendations. Below are a few of my favorite locations in the Indianapolis area for engagement photos!
Coxhall Gardens
Coxhall Gardens is one of my favorite locations! It is located in Carmel and has so many great backdrops. There are some great bridges, ponds, willow trees, open grass areas, a mansion, an open amphitheater, and a lot more! If you are wanting a beautifully manicured area with a lot of different options, then this is a great spot!
West Park
West Park is also in Carmel and is more of an open park. There are open grass areas, trails with trees, some tall grass areas, and a wooden walkway by a pond. This location is perfect if you are wanting more of a simple outdoor backdrop for your photos. You can find some great light at this park.
Holcomb Gardens
Holcomb Gardens is on Butler University's campus in Indianapolis, Indiana. This park is a great location in Indianapolis that isn't a typical Indy Park. There are a few different backdrops here. A pond with a fountain, river and bridges, some pretty white steps, and the garden location that is more open with flowers depending on the season.
Newfields
Newfields is the art museum in Indianapolis. It's a gorgeous location with greenery, fun buildings, and a nice garden area. There is a photography permit that needs to be purchased to use this location for a session.
Indianapolis Canal and White River State Park
The Indianapolis Canal is vast and it can make the perfect backdrop for your engagement portraits. You obviously have the canal itself but there are also some great brick buildings, archways, bridges, flowers, and open grass areas. White River State Park gives you a few different options. There are the open grass areas, the art installations, the bridge with a good view of the Indianapolis Skyline, and you even get part of the canal as well!
Downtown Indianapolis
Downtown Indianapolis is perfect if you want more of an urban backdrop for your engagement sessions. You can include in Monument Circle with it's monument and pretty white steps, alleyways, the unique buildings of downtown, and maybe even a skyline view!
Forest Park
Forest Park is in Noblesville and is a pretty big park and has a lot of great areas! There are open areas, trees, trails, flowers depending on the season, and a pretty white fence. There is also a carousel and train museum here too!
Laurel Hall
Laurel Hall is a gorgeous location with indoor and outdoor spaces. This makes it great for rainy or cold weather. There is a gorgeous glass enclosed space with marble, outdoor staircase, and balcony area. There is a photography permit that needs to be purchased for this location.
Fountain Square
The Fountain Square area of Indianapolis is a great urban area for photos! There is the gorgeous fountain, some great murals, and lots of fun buildings.
Avon Gardens
Avon Gardens is a gorgeous garden center and event venue! They have so many gorgeous flowers and it's landscaped perfectly! There is a small fee to do photos here and there is limited hours as to when photos can happen but it's a great location if you want mots of pretty florals.
