I always get asked by my couples for recommendations for locations for their engagement photos! There are so many locations to choose from and sometimes it can be overwhelming. If you have a location that has a special tie to you both as a couple, that can be a great location but if you have no idea, then I have some recommendations. Below are a few of my favorite locations in the Lafayette, Indiana area for engagement photos!
Purdue University
Purdue University is obviously a great choice if you attended or met at Purdue University! You can take photos at all of your favorite locations like the Engineering Fountain, Purdue Union, and more! Purdue can also be a great location even if you don't have ties to Purdue. There are still some pretty grass open areas and brick building that can be beautiful and not look like you are at Purdue.
Fairfield Lakes
Fairfield Lakes is a great location in Lafayette! It's more-so-known as a fishing spot but it is beautiful! There are a couple of ponds, open grass areas, and trails with trees. It's a perfect outdoor location if you want something more nature focused.
Wea Creek Orchard
Wea Creek Orchard is a private location but they will usually let us shoot there most of the time unless they have an event going on. As the name suggests, it's an orchard so you can find rows of trees, a pumpkin patch depending on the season, open grass areas, and two beautiful barns- a red barn and a white barn.
Downtown Lafayette
If you want something a bit urban then Downtown Lafayette is a great choice! There are so many great alleyways and buildings. There are also some great art/graffiti areas too. Plus, there is the Pedestrian Bridge with some great views of Lafayette and the river along with some green areas and trails.
Tippecanoe Battlefield Park
Tippecanoe Battlefield Park is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. It is a great little area. Behind the memorial are trails and trees and even a river. There are also some tall grass areas and some pretty brick buildings!
Happy Hollow Park
Happy Hollow Park is a smaller park but it does get some pretty fall colors during the fall! There are tails, trees, open grass areas, and some rustic steps that lead up a hill.
Purdue Horticultural Park
Purdue Horticultural Park is part of Purdue and offers a wooden area, trails, and an open grass area. This is a nice option is you want a park setting without it screaming Purdue University.
Celery Bog
The Celery Bog is a nice little nature area located in West Lafayette. There is the bog itself, tails, wooded area, open grass areas, a wooden walkway, and depending on the time of the year, flowers.
Prophetstown State Park
Lafayette does have a state park and that is Prophetstown! This park is quite big and features rivers, open grass areas, tall grass, trails, a barn, and more. One thing to note: this location does require a photography pass and there is a gate fee as well so you will want to keep this in mind.
Armstrong Park
Armstrong Park is a wonderful park in Lafayette that often gets overlooked! There is a tennis court and swim area at this park but this park also features a great pond that has a paved walkway around it. There are also open grass areas and trees. I, surprisingly, haven't done an engagement session here so here are a few examples from other sessions that I did at Armstrong!
Columbian Park
Columbian Park is arguably the most popular park in Lafayette! There is the playground, the zoo, the waterpark, a train, a pavilion, the stadium, and more. It's the main park in Lafayette. This means it can get busy but it's a beautiful park especially for sunrise sessions! There are a few bridges here that are spectacular, open grass areas, trees, brick buildings, and lots of flowers during certain times of the year.
Bridges and Other Areas
Don't think you are bound to parks! Lafayette has a lot of other things to offer too from walking bridges to monuments to your backyard! The options are endless!
